THE MARCH QUESTION

This very stately gentleman was not so stately
when he began his career as a stamp dealer. When a young man, his first
sales occurred in front of a church in downtown New York City
when he used to offer stamps for sale by pinning them
to a cork bulletin board he posted on the church's fence.
He went on to become one of the most famous stamp dealers in history.

 Who was he?
